Welcome to St Mary’s Catholic Primary School

Welcome to St Mary’s Catholic Primary School, Gillingham. It is a privilege to serve as Headteacher of a school where our Catholic mission and Gospel values are at the heart of everything we do.

Our school motto, “Serving with Love; Striving for Excellence,” guides our community. Inspired by the teachings of Jesus Christ, we are committed to serving one another with compassion, respect, and generosity, while striving for excellence in learning, behaviour, and personal development. We recognise every child as unique and created in the image of God, and seek to nurture their dignity, talents, and potential.

At St Mary’s, our Catholic ethos is lived out daily through prayer, collective worship, and a curriculum rooted in Gospel values. We aim to support pupils to flourish academically, spiritually, morally, and socially, encouraging growth in faith, confidence, and responsibility. High expectations are balanced with care, enabling children to achieve their best in a safe, joyful, and nurturing environment.

Our wonderful school grounds are used to enrich learning, promote wellbeing, and develop curiosity and stewardship of God’s creation. Every child has regular opportunities to learn and grow outdoors.

Strong partnerships with parents, carers, the parish, and the wider community are central to our mission. While our Catholic identity is clear, we warmly welcome families of all faiths and none who share our values.

St Mary’s is a joyful, inclusive, and faith-filled community where children live out our motto each day. I warmly invite you to visit the school to experience our Catholic life in action. Please contact the office to arrange a visit, we would be delighted to welcome you.

Our Mission Statement

Serving with Love; Striving for Excellence

We aim to create a Christ-centred community where prayer and worship are a natural part of life and each member is valued, cared for and helped to develop as an individual. Our school community reaches out in partnership to parents and parish.

We aim to build positive relationships, encouraging in us a sense of self-respect, respect for others and for all life, which is reflected in our conduct.

Through praise and celebration, we aim to build an environment where self-esteem can flourish, where pupils can learn self-reliance and independence, and the skills for independent learning.

We aim to help our pupils develop as healthy, knowledgeable, responsible and compassionate citizens.

In addition to formal studies, we aim to integrate our Religious Education into the curriculum so that knowledge, concepts and skills are set in the context of faith, and faith becomes a way of life.

In curriculum studies, we are committed to high standards, encouraging individual excellence by supporting each person to achieve their best.

We stand on holy ground, every child, every young person, every adult, is a unique image of God.
We are invited by God to nurture the life of the Spirit in one another as children of God,
so that we become ‘more like Christ’, fully human and fully alive.
This is our FAITH.
