School Governors

The duties of a Governing Body are set out in the Education Act 2002, along with a range of regulations.  The duties of a governor are varied and rewarding, and can be summarised as promoting the high standards of education for all children, as well as having a responsibility for the conduct and achievement of the school.

Governors at St Mary’s are highly committed to promoting and furthering standards within the school and work closely with the Headteacher, teachers and support staff to develop the school as a whole.  As a part of their duties governors regularly visit the school to celebrate and enjoy performances, teaching and learning and school events such as Mass.  This then enables our Governors to fulfil their statutory duties for the conduct of the school.  Governors regularly attend training and courses to enable them to carry out their duties more effectively.
